Barclays Premier League

Fixtures :- 16th December 2007

Arsenal(Gallas) 1-0 Chelsea

LIVERPOOL 0-1 Manu(Tevez)

It was T for Tevez and not Torres who made the differnece in the match at Anfield. There was enough speculations that Torres would be the talking point as everybody had missed that there was one more crucial transfer of Tevez to Manu this season.First half saw both the teams sharing equal possesion but Liverpool should have gone up by2 goals atleast after some horrors from Ferdinand and Vandersar. The goal came from set pieces with Giggs taking an early corner and passing to Rooney that he fired towards the goal which found Tevez in between who scored easily. The goal would have been disallowed by playing Tevez offside but Benayoun stayed at the post which made Tevez onside.Torres ,Gerrard who always lift the game for the team were kept silent today.Gerrard didnt have chances of getting forward much as he was playing a role of defensive midfielder more.Second half as expected Manu went defensive though Liverpool having much of the possesion failed to score a goal.Substitutes Babel and Crouch tried hard but couldnt break Manu's defences.Babel came close to score as he alone looked as a possible threat for the Red Devils. My Man of the Match goes to Oliveria Anderson who played splendidly. The way he and Hargreaves were cutting passes of Liverpool made the difference in the match a lot.Now Rafa has to explain some things to his owners about their loss as the title hopes for Liverpool have become very remote. There is an immediate meeting after the match between the owners and Rafa about various club issues to discuss. For the first time Rafa Benitez would face criticism for keeping the same side. There is speculation that Benitez will not be given any money to invest in transfer window.Check the below link

UEFA Champions League 12/12/2007

Full-TIME Scores:

Barcelona(Giovanni,Eto,Ronaldinho)3-1 Stuttgart(Da Silva)
Rangers 0-3 Lyon(Govou,Benzema(2))
This is was a really interesting match and the final result is unfair to a Rangers side that did play really well.Lyon had sent up to counter-attack with benzema as the lone striker and 5 in mid wid a wave-like attack.Juninho set govou early on but he could only hit the side-netting.Finally the first goal came in similar fashion with a wonderful through ball that govou dispatched.Rangers did have a lot of posession but failed to capitalise and benzema punished them at the end with 2 wonderful goals.
Roma(Mancini) 1-1 Manu(Pique)
Sporting(Anderson,Moutinho,Liedson)3-0 Dyanamo
Fenerbache 3-1 CSKA
PSV 0-1 Inter (Cruz)
Arsenal(Diaby,Bendtner) 2-1 Steaua
Slavia 0-3 Sevilla (Fabiano,Kanoute,Alves)

Marseille 0-4 Liverpool(Gerrard,Torres,Babel,Kuyt)
The perfect day for the Scousers. Their team played amazing football from the very 1st minute. There was never a moment in the match when Liverpool looked as if they would loose it.
It was a dream start for Liverpool to say the least. Liverpool opened their account in as soon as the 3rd minute when the captain StevieG was brought down in the penalty box. It was a shocker that the Ref did not send of the defender as he was clearly the last man. Gerrard hit a rather dull penalty which was saved by the keeper but he did mange hit the rebound into the back of the net. 7 minutes later,an amazing run from Torres showing great quick skills took him past 3 Marseille defenders, produced the 2nd goal for Liverpool. It was an excellent shot to the bottom right corner with the keeper having no chance of saving it. The last 30 minutes of the half was rather boring as all Liverpool had to do was defend.
In the second half, Marseille required an early goal if they wanted to get anywhere close to saving the match. An early goal did come, but from Liverpool. Kuyt beating the offside trap was through on goal. With only the keeper to beat, it was a calm finish by him. It was game, set and match for Marseille and they had no coming back from thr. They were destroyed psychologically as well as mentally on the field. To hit the nail in the coffin, Babel scored a classy goal in the injury time to seal things for Liverpool.
It was quite clear that Liverpool would qualify for the knock out stages. But this would be done so convincingly was unexpected. Liverpool qualify 2nd in their grp behind porto who have a point more thn them after their 2-0 win against Besiktas.

FC Porto 2-0 Besiktas

Chelsea 0-0 Valencia
Chelsea completely outplayed Valencia in this match. They had many many chances.Lampard had a wonderful chance in the first half,Pizarro played very well in the absence of Drogba and the return of Paulo Ferreira were some of the things Chelsea could be happy about. However, the failure to score would have creatd some doubts in the minds of the backroom staff.

Schalke 3-1 Rosenborg

RMadrid 3-1 Lazio
Real Madrid completely destroyed Lazio in this match. They came out attack-minded and never allowed Lazio to have any play.Baptista scored very early with a rocket-like shot of the edge of the penalty area. Then Schneider tricked Lazio with a short corner which Raul headed into the back of the net.The third goal came when Ruud set up Robinho with a tap-in and Madrid were through.

Olympiakos 3-0 Bremen

Barclays Premier League

Barclays Premier League ( 9/12/07)
BlackBurn 0-1 WestHamUnited(Ashton)

Middlesborough(Downing (P),Tuncay) 2-1 Arsenal(Rocisky)
After Liverpool, it was Arsenal's turn this time to loose their winning streak. It lasted 22 games and this came 2 an end by a side which had not won their previous 11 games, Middlesborough. It all started when Toure brought down ex-Arsenal man Aladiare in the box. Ref had no doubt in giving a penalty. Downing scores from the spot. 1-0 Boro. Arsenal were looking very lethargic and sloppy in the field. In the second half, it became worse for Arsenal when Tuncay hit the back of the net from an acute angle. In stoppage time, 94th min to b precise, Arsenal got a consolation when Rocisky scored. All in all, A well deserved victory for Boro. Arsenal having got only 1 point from the possible 6, have just a 1 point lead over current champions Manchester United.

Bolton 4-1 Wigan
It was a comfortable win for Bolton. They opened the scoring with a Scharner own goal actually it was an awsome header goal.Kevin Kilbanes's handball awarded Bolton penalty which Anelka missed it hitting the ball way above the post.Kevin Nolan and Kevin Davies scored the 2nd and 3rd goal.Anelka recovered his mistake by scoring back the 4th goal. The only goal for Wigan came from Landzatt.
Totn 2-1 Manchester City
Chimbonda opened the scoring for the Spurs by the end of the first half.Substitute striker Rolando Bianchi scored for City.Stephen Ireland was shown a red card for his shocking tackle, which reduced City to 10 men and which led Spurs to get the winning goal.Defoe scored the goal. After a long time it was happy faces at Spurs bench to see the team win.

LA LIGA FULL Time Scores:

Osasuna 0-0 Valencia ; BilBao 0-1 Real Madrid (Vanistelrooy)

Premiera Liga
Athletic Bilbao 0-1 Real Madrid
Real Madrid have moved seven points clear of the top of the Liga table with a hard-fought win at Athletic Bilbao. The game was settled by a rare-strike from Ruud van Nistelrooy from oustide the box in the 55th min.Bilbao should have gone one up very early on but Andoni failed to capitalise on Cannavaro's mistake.Casillas had a brilliant day in goal and the game ended on a sour note when Bilbao's supporters pelted objects on Casillas towards the end of the game.

Osasuna 0-0 Valencia
Valencia dropped points again when they were held to a goalless draw by Osasuna.Valencia are tyring to qualify for the next stage of the Champions league and played it safe by resting key players like Joaquin,Morientes and Edu but the gamble backfired as a determined Osasuna side did enough to keep them at Bay.

Aston Villa(Barry) 1-3 Portsmouth (Gardener OG',Muntari(2))
Villa suffered a shocked defeat at home as the Pompies climb up to the 5th position.Laursen missed two simple headers which he should have scored easily. Some blunders in the defence by Bouma helped Villa to go 0-1 down with Gardener scoring in his own net.Muntari scored the other two goals. The only goal for Villa came from a penalty which was scored by Barry.
Chelsea(Sheva,Lampard)2-0 Sunderland
This match was always gonna be one-sided and the pundits had preticted a very easy victory.Shevchenko got a a goal early on and Chelsea stepped off the pace. However Sunderland showed a lot of chracter and Chelsea were run ragged in the second half with Jones missing many sitters from point blank range.Cudicini kept well and Sunderland were always in it until Lampard scored from the spot after Alex was adjudged to have been brought down in the box.
Liam Miller Sent off

Everton(Yakubu(3)) 3-0 Fulham
Yakubu was on a roll scoring his first hattrick for his Everton career. This was Yakubu's third hat-trick in the premiership and he's set Everton back on track in their quest for European Qualification

Man Utd(Giggs,tevez(2),Ronaldo) 4-1 Derby(Howard)
The Red Devils had to win this match the question was how much was Derby going to concede as they had been thrased 6-0 and 7-0 by Liverpool and Arsenal respectively.Manu had to work hard for thier first goal as Derby held the Devils for 40 min.Giggs scored the first while brace from Tevez.Ronaldo scored the 4th from the penalty which had a controversy of Ronaldo diving in the box.Derby managed to score a goal and this was their first away goal of this season and they wil never forget this as they scored against Red Devils.

Newcastle (Martins,Beye) 2-1 Birmingham (Jerome)
Newcastle went one goal down after their defensive horror. They came back with a penalty goal from Martins and Beye scoring in the injury time and you should have seen the whole newcastle bench as all were celebrating as they won a trophy, you could see Sam Allardyce dancing too.

Reading (Hunt,Doyle,harper)3-1 Liverpool (Gerrard)
It was after 6 hour and 27 minutes that Liverpool conceded a goal when Jamie Carragher commited a foul. Liverpool players complained as the tackle was made outside the D but after confirmation from the linesman, the ref awarded a penalty to Reading and Hunt slotted it home from the spot. Liverpool came back with goal from the most predictable of sources, StevieG. It was a Fernando Torres assist. Liverpool would consider themselves unlucky as the ref missed to giv a certain penalty on a foul on Torres. This is the first defeat for Liverpool after a stunning 14 games. Now they have to forget this as quickly as possible and have to win against marseille(a must win game). In all 3 penalties were not given for Liverpool but one cant put this as a excuse .The only thing i conclude from this is the ref should be demoted to championship league 3.
